Graduation from Washburn University in 1965 was followed by "stay-at-home" (sometimes accompanied by part-time studies and/or part-time jobs) in Iowa, Nebraska and Texas. I started teaching full-time in 1973: math at Jesuit College Prep School in Dallas, Computer Science at the University of North Texas in Denton and, finally, after jumping out of the midwest to the east coast, Information and Computer Science at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. I retired in 2007.
My current life is filled with weaving, training for running events and triathlons and the volunteering at the Women's Center of Jacksonville (womenscenterofjax.org).

Yes, Lloyd, "journalism" IS very different now. One thing that grits my teeth is that all the headline adjectives are superlatives! The first memory that pops up in my mind when I think of Mrs. Greer's class is an embarrassing one: Listing topics for stories on the board, I didn't notice that I had abbreviated assembly with it's first three letters until I heard stifled laughter-probably only stifled because Mrs. Greer was in the room. At Washburn, I remember going over to North Topeka taking proof reading corrections to where the paper was printed and watching the operator use the linotype machine to make the changes..

Great to see the Topeka Capital Journal article recognizing your mother-in-law for her work to desegregate public schools!

Susan Ree, I never thought I would have a pile of excuses to toss your way but this time I am serious as a cricket with a brick on its back caught in quick sand. I've been running hither to thither from doctor to clinic from clinic to lab and lab to home to meet my nurse for an appointed weekly visit. Int he midst of all of this I finally got results of tests I had Taken. Found out I have early stages of Parkinson's Disease. My health team caught it at earliest possible time. But I still can never drive touch any from of alcohol and keep a cane close at hand because of my spinal cord surgery. So, at your next birthday if you need me to come out there to swipe out a candle, or two, or even three, with my trusty cane, let me know. Hope you had a great Birthday.

Susan, How could I possibly miss your birthday? Now let me see? Was it the cheap calendar I bought last year at the Dollar Store last year, no that excuse did not work, well how about this one, My DELL XPS 8700 gave up the ghost , treated me to a blue screen. I ordered a new Desktop preferably a XPS 8290 but told sales clerk I would be in Kansas for a family reunion. Now the story gets interesting. The Sales Clerk told me, should FedEx deliver the computer while If were not at home in , they would leave me a note to call them when I returned, for them to deliver my new computer. What happened however, when I returned what I found was a weathered box marked "DELL" which had apparently been on my front porch for several days in clear view of any passing car. Then came the next surprise, it was the wrong computer. So I had to ship it back, order and pay for a new one before i could wish you a belated Happy birthday. So Susan Ree you must appreciate what I have been through to get to this point to say I hope 76 has been good for yo so far and that you have many more! Ramon Noches

Best wishes for a great birthday. I am stll trying to work out that mathematical numbering system you mentioned during your last birthday. I think I finnally worked it out and according to my calculations, you are E=MC2(Xp[t1-t2])/Z2 = 73; So there:-) Hope you have a great time on you special day.
